The idea for this strip came from the fact that, because I’ve been so busy trying too coordinate all of the different stories I have coming up for ADDANAC CITY, I had neglected to feature any strips which included snowfall for this year. I don’t feel too bad, because I blanketed AC in a huge blizzard last year which slowed things to a halt for the citizens.

But even less than a year, after a raging record blizzard, there would be one person who didn’t get their fill of snow and school cancellations for the following year: Hank Addanac.

At least, the young chap is inventive (to his dad’s dismay).

It’s bad enough that there’s a snowstorm going on, there’s no way in heck Hank’s parents are gonna let him make that kinda ruckus in the house. I think my parents did the same to me when they got stir crazy.

I just thought it would be interesting to create an AC strip using a different format. I like to write, so Hank’s Survival Journal gave me a great opportunity to do so.

As a kid, whenever we got stuck home due to abundant snowfalls, I used to worry about whether we had enough grub stocked up to eat. And I always think about the movie Alive whenever I think of blizzards.

This is my version of what Hank would do in such a scenario. I don’t know about you, but the imagery just cracks me up. I’m not sure if this was Scottie’s fate, but I wouldn’t put anything past ol’ Hank Addanac.

Phil McHunt is another character that I created back during the Zombie Invasion storyline. Phil’s first appearance was here where he reported on the mysterious death of the local cemetery’s caretaker.

I like Phil McHunt and I see tremendous potential for him as a recurring character in this comic series. There’s always room for a nosy newscaster, isn’t there? You’ll be seeing more of him this year.

I haven’t drawn too much snow in ADDANAC CITY this season so I felt that it was only proper to hit the community with a surprise blizzard. It’s nice to be the omniscient ruler of a town sometimes.

The Blizzard of ’10 will last all this week through Valentine’s Day (and maybe a little bit beyond). Hank’s always begging and praying for snow. What’s gonna happen when he finally gets more winter weather than he bargains for? I hope you all enjoy these upcoming strips.

I had rotten luck like that, too. It seemed like every Friday night, my town would get a raging blizzard that would totally melt by Sunday evening. It used to vex me so.

I remember trying everything in the book (and out of it, too) just so I wouldn’t have to do my homework. After hours of plotting and scheming, it would have been easier to have just done my assignments.

It’s a wonder Hank doesn’t get a beating every day.
