Hip-Hop Flip-Flop

Hip-Hop Flip-Flop

I’m relatively sure each and every one of you have heard of the Black Eyed Peas. Their songs, spearheaded by Will I. Am and Fergie have dominated the record charts throughout the past year. Yeah, they sing some good ol’ ditties. I’m not gonna front, I like them. They’re well-rounded and the music is catchy and is guaranteed to get stuck in your head. I just no longer consider them to be hip-hop.

When they first started, they began as something akin to party rappers with a lil’ singing thrown in for harmony and melody. After their star began rising, they cut back on the rapping aspect and reinforced Fergie’s singing voice and awesome, jaw-dropping visual image (she is very easy on the eyes). The BEP’s stage show is reputed to be quite a crowd-pleaser and I wouldn’t mind seeing them myself.

However, any hip-hop purist, like Ren, will tell you, they aren’t a rap group. They’re musical entertainers. There is a difference. Some will say they’re better now than they used to be. I agree, but their music has transcended into a different genre.
